THERMAL NEUTRON CAPTURE CROSS SECTIONS AND RESONANCE INTEGRAL MESUREMENT AT THE DALAT REACTOR
Main Article Content
Abstract
A procedure for measurements of thermal neutron capture cross-sectionss0 and resonance integrals I0 have been developed and verified by the activation method, using the thermal column neutron source of the Dalat research reactor. In order to make validation of the experimental procedure, the measurement of s0 and I0 values for 185Re and 187Re nuclide have been performed. The experimental samples with and without a cylindrical Cd-shield case 1 mm in thickness were irradiated in the neutron field of the thermal column facility of Dalat research reactor. The induced activities in the samples were measured by using a high-resolution HPGe detector. Thermal neutron cross-sections for 2200m/s neutrons and resonance integrals for the reactions of 185Re(n,γ)186Re and 187Re(n,γ)188Re have been obtained relative to the reference values of the 197Au(n,γ)198Au reaction, with s0 = 98.65 ± 0.09 barn and I0 = 1550 ± 28 barn. The necessary correction factors for thermal neutron and resonance neutron self-shielding effects in the samples were taken into account in the experiments. The present results are discussed and compared with evaluated values.
